Linking Model-Driven App with Power BI

Hi.

I want to link my model-driven application (Dynamics 365) to Power BI. From what I researched, you need a web API URL (from the Developer section) to link them, and you can choose your entities. When I did that, and chose the custom entity/table I created, what I got is a table with what looks like metadata, columns with tables in them, and empty columns. What am I missing? Also, is there a way to link your MDA with Power BI and ONLY have to choose and display the custom entities you created; without the system generated ones?

Thank you.

    Hi @NaCarns,

You can embed a Power BI Dashboard or Tile on a Model-Driven Dashboard in direct query mode (real-time data). You need to enable this setting in your environment, then you can download a Power BI file with the Dataverse connection embedded.

Steps on how to do this are documented below.

    https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/powerapps/maker/data-platform/view-entity-data-power-bi

    https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/powerapps/maker/model-driven-apps/create-edit-powerbi-embedded-page

So I followed the steps but I couldn't find the Power BI report I've published to my workspace when creating a new Power BI dashboard (through the model-driven app). Can they only work with dashboards? Is there a way to make them work with reports?

EDIT: after several minutes, the Power BI report showed in the system dashboards. Not sure why it took this much time.

A user from another BU tried accessing the report, and it prompted him to sign in but failed to authenticate. Is there an option I need to enable in the security roles for them to be able to view the Power Bi report without any authentication or whatnot? @ChrisPiasecki

Or is it a matter of giving them access to my Power BI workspace?

    Hi @NaCarns,

Users will need to have a Power BI license, and you'll need to share the report/workspace with them. And of course when it comes to the data, the Users will need to have the correct security roles in Dataverse to the Data since direct query is accessing the data directly with the users credentials.
