Client is worried about using Dataverse. What are the costs?

Hi all,

I am building a power app for a client. I pay the $20 a month for the license.

I am building on top of a dataverse database within a solution, so I can ship the app to my client for him to run in his environment.

My client wants his team to use the app and he wants to let his customers use the app, but he is worried there might be additional costs for using a dataverse database (as opposed to a sharepoint list) that he'd have to pass on to his clients.

I don't know if his concerns are warranted or not because I'm new to the Microsoft ecosystem. Is there an extra cost to those who own the app or to the people using the app, when storing data to a dataverse database?

Hi @powertotheapps1,

The only additional cost would be storage if you run out. If you only have one app, you can use the Power Apps per App plan which is 5$ per user per month instead of $20. And if your functionality is simple you can build your app with Dataverse for Team and it's free. Know its limitations though: https://learn.microsoft.com/power-apps/teams/data-platform-compare

Also, suggest to get in touch with your local Microsoft representative for more guidance and potential rebates.

Assuming you are utilizing the "full Dataverse" vs. "Dataverse for Teams", each user of the application will need to pay the $5 per month to utilize. If he has a team of 10 people, then each of them would be charged $5 and if he is exposing to customers and it is a Power App vs. a Power Pages application then each user at the customer would need to pay $5 per month to utilize the application.

If you are utilizing Dataverse for Teams then his team would need to have an appropriate Office 365 license that includes Dataverse for Teams. Guest users would need at least an Office 365 license in their own tenant or be licensed in the company's tenant (https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/power-apps/maker/canvas-apps/share-app-guests) or of course they could have a Power Apps Per App or other valid license as well...

Power Apps is a per user license to utilize and when you utilize Dataverse as you are then this requires at least a Power Apps Per App (1 app or website) license for each user.

Thank you. My client and and all of his customers would already have a Teams account. It sounds like there would be no additional cost to him or his clients if I build the app with dataverse for teams. As a licensed power apps developer, how do I ensure I am building with "dataverse for teams"? And what are the storage limits for "Dataverse for Teams"?

Note, if you are building with Dataverse for Teams you will be using "Canvas" apps and building this in the Teams interface following this approach: https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/training/modules/get-started-dataverse-teams/

You will not be able to build model apps with this model.
