Hyperlink column of SharePoint List- showing item name rather than URL in PowerApps

Hello,

I am building a Power App that has a SharePoint List as a data source. One of the columns in this list (called 'Category') is a 'Hyperlink or Picture' type column, with the URL linking to an item in another SharePoint List (this list is called LB_Category). I am building a PowerApp where I need to show the data in the 'Category' column. Does anyone know what formula I should enter to show the list item's name in the LB_Category Sharepoint List, rather than the URL for the item? I have tried the following formula for the 'Default' property:

ThisItem.Category

This results in the URL for the item in the LB_Category list to show, rather than the name of the item in the LB_Category list.

I would be grateful for any suggestions for getting the item's name to show in the PowerApp (rather than the URL).

Thank you,

Nic

    Hi @Nicol_ ,

Using Hyperlinks to refer to other SP lists will not work. Rather than that, please use a LookUp type column, or easier: a foreign key in plain text.

    Hi @BCBuizer ,

    Thank you for your reply.

Unfortunately lookup columns are not an option in this case, as this SP list already has the maximum number of lookup column associations compatible with Power Apps. I am not familiar with foreign keys- is there a reference with detailed instructions that you can point me to for how to set these up in a SharePoint List?

It is possible to set up hyperlinks to refer to items in other SP lists- we have this relationship established. The benefit of such a relationship is that it is possible to have a definition for each category there in the list, which is the reason a hyperlink column was used (in the absence of available lookup columns), rather than a choice column. The lists are shown below, along with the problem that I am having with the URL showing in the Power App rather than the list item name/text title for the URL.

This is part of the Parent List used for the PowerApp, with the Category hyperlink type column (note, within the Category column, the item name/text title for the URL is displayed rather than the URL):

This is the LB_Category List that the hyperlink type Category Column in the above list references:

And here is how the Category column data displays in my Power App (where the Default property is set to ThisItem.Category). I want it to show the Category name (1, 2 or 3) rather than the URL:

Any other suggestions for how to get the Power App to show the item name/text title for the URL in the Category List, rather than the URL would be greatly appreciated.

    Thank you,

    Nic

    Hi @Nicol_ ,

What you want is not possible. An idea has been raised to add this PowerApps as a feature, so you can "upvote" it in an attempt to get it implemented:

Display Text of a SharePoint Hyperlink - Power Platform Community (microsoft.com)

Thank you @BCBuizer for your advice and for alerting me to this idea that has already been submitted, much appreciated 🙂
