Dropdown covers screen when opened

Hi,

I'm facing an issue on a landscape app where I have a dropdown list and when I click to open the list and view the options it does two things, 1: It opens at the top of the screen, 2: when opened it covers a large section of the screen.

Is it possible to scale the dropdown when opened?

Screen when DropDown is not clicked:

Screen when DropDown is clicked:

What I would like to happen is when the Selece Candidate is clicked, the list would appear under the dropdown.

Any help would be great.

Thanks 🙂

    Hi @nm2023 ,

In Power Apps, the dropdown control's behavior and appearance can be somewhat rigid. If the dropdown list opens at the top and covers a large section of the screen, this is typically due to the app's design or the device's aspect ratio and screen size. However, there are a few things you can try to manage this:

    1. Reposition the Dropdown: Move the dropdown lower on the canvas so that when it opens, it does not cover important UI elements.

    2. Resize Dropdown: Adjust the height of the dropdown control itself, which can sometimes affect the opened list's display size.

    3. Combo Box: Consider using a Combo Box control instead of a Dropdown. The Combo Box offers more flexibility, such as the ability to search within the box, which can improve usability if there are many items.

    4. Screen Size and Orientation: Design your app with different screen sizes and orientations in mind. Use the App.ActiveScreen.Width and App.ActiveScreen.Height properties to get the current screen size and adjust controls dynamically.

    5. Visible Property: Use the Visible property to control which elements are displayed when the dropdown is opened. This can prevent the dropdown from covering important parts of your UI.

    6. Z-Order: Ensure that the dropdown list is placed correctly in the Z-order of controls on the screen. Controls that are higher in the Z-order will render on top of controls that are lower.

Here's a quick example of how to use the Visible property in conjunction with the dropdown:

// Assuming 'ddSelectCandidate' is your dropdown control name
// Set this formula on the Visible property of the elements you want to hide when dropdown is opened

    !ddSelectCandidate.IsOpen

This will hide certain UI elements when the dropdown is open, preventing them from being covered by the dropdown list. Remember to replace ddSelectCandidate with the actual name of your dropdown control.

    Best Regards,
    Hassan Raza

    Hi @Hassan_SZ_365 ,

Thanks for all the helpful information above, I was able to achieve a reasonable result by moving elements around the screen.

Currently looking into changing it to a combobox for the search functionality.

    I tried to test the

    !ddSelectCandidate.IsOpen

(With my dropdown name) but the "IsOpened" was not coming up as an option.

    Thanks again
