Issue with Power BI Embedded Dashboard in Model-Driven App

Hello all,

I'm trying to use a Power BI Dashboard in a model-driven app that I'm designing in a sandbox environment. For that, I'm including the dashboard in the solution where the app is located and, after that, I'm adding a dashboard page to the app using that PBI dash as source. It lets me save and seems that it's fine, but it is not working. When I access that page (whether in edit or play mode) I get an error message saying that "Something went wrong" and that it couldn't get the report. I tried this in other non-sandbox environments and it's working perfectly fine. Any workaround to this?

Thanks a lot.

Hey there, did you have any luck with this?  We're having a similar issue with the dashboard not showing PowerBI content for some users.  All licensing/security looks to be identical but some users can't view the report content.  It's puzzling.

Has anybody found any solution on this problem?

For those who still have this issue, with some debugging it seems there's a missing priv.  So to solve this (for us) I created a custom security role and assigned read privs to the following entries on the "Custom Entities" tab:

    • Power BI Dataset
    • Power BI Report
    • powerbidatasetapdx
    • powerbireportapdx

And we assigned that role to anyone who needed to access the Power BI dashboard.

Hey @Fooksie thanks heaps for posting this. I have spent 6 hours today troubleshooting as to why my users can't see a Power BI report I had embedded. Adding those privileges to their security role fixed the issue. Kudos to you!

It sounds like you're experiencing an issue with integrating a Power BI Dashboard into your model-driven app in a sandbox environment. Here are some steps you can try to troubleshoot and potentially resolve the issue:

    1. Check Permissions: Ensure that the user accessing the model-driven app in the sandbox environment has appropriate permissions to view the Power BI Dashboard. Make sure they have access to the underlying data sources as well.

    2. Verify Dashboard Connection: Double-check the connection between the Power BI Dashboard and the model-driven app. Ensure that the dashboard is correctly added to the solution and that it's pointing to the correct data sources.

    3. Refresh Data: If the Power BI Dashboard relies on live data connections, try refreshing the data sources within Power BI Desktop or the Power BI service. Sometimes, data refresh failures can cause issues with displaying the dashboard in other applications.

    4. Review Error Logs: Look for error logs or details about the specific error message you're encountering. This can provide more insights into what might be causing the issue.

    5. Test in Different Browsers: Try accessing the model-driven app and the embedded Power BI Dashboard in different web browsers to see if the issue persists. Sometimes, browser-specific issues can affect the display of embedded content.

    6. Check Environment Configuration: Ensure that the sandbox environment is properly configured to support the integration of Power BI Dashboards. There might be specific settings or configurations that need to be adjusted.

    7. Contact Support: If none of the above steps resolve the issue, consider reaching out to Microsoft Support or your organization's IT support team for further assistance. They may be able to provide additional guidance or investigate the issue in more detail.

By following these steps, you should be able to diagnose the problem and hopefully find a workaround or solution to successfully integrate the Power BI Dashboard into your model-driven app in the sandbox environment.
