For my below situation - Confused what to insert ?. - combo Box Or DropDown or Text Input Control

I Need to put a 3 control  (combo Box Or DropDown or Text Input Control)  on the top of the screen, so that either user will select or just input the portion what he remembers and gallery filter will be based on that

Control 1 to type/select Model

Control 2 to type/select Serial

Control 3 to type/select CustomerName

In my situation user may know Model or serial or customer name and select from the control or simply type portion of it.

Example actual serial no A12345

He may select if he remembers or can just type A12, the gallery to filter based on the control given text

Confused and cannot understand what control to put, If I select combox/DropDown then Selection is must - portion cannot be typed,

and if I select Text Input, then the user can type the portion but will not have the option of dropdown to see/select.

Please guide in this situation what do, which control and how to manage

I guess you could use a ComboBox and make sure the Allow Search is switched on (and most likely switch offf the Allow Multiple Selections)

Now the most important part of the trick is to make sure that you eiter use the entered search text OR the selected item in the ComboBox to filter your gallery with some code resembling this:

    If(IsBlank(ComboBox1.Selected.Value1),ComboBox1.SearchText,ComboBox1.Selected.Value1)

You mean I need to insert the TextBox as well as combo box for the user for the same purpose.

And ask user either to select or to type in the given box.

Please confirm If I am understanding correct

When I tried as you advised for the combo, found in combox either you select or you can type - BUT once you leave the field it gets blank, so you below code will work

    If(IsBlank(ComboBox1.Selected.Value1),ComboBox1.SearchText,ComboBox1.Selected.Value1)

     - And also how user will see what search portion he has typed.

Confused, need additional text box or what?

You don’t need the Textbox anymore. That is what you now created with the Searchtext property of the ComboBox. That is the beauty of this solution! 😇

    Sorry not understanding.

As you mentioned, no textbox need, it will be based on the combo.

Therefore to check the code result , I added label on in its Text property, I applied below:

    If(IsBlank(SelectModel_1.Selected.Value1),SelectModel_1.SearchText,SelectModel_1.Selected.Value1)

Note : My combo box control Name is   SelectModel_1

Error on the formula bar line- image as below

Error sign near the label control
    MIA27_0-1708502314237.png

Also As i mentioned another abnormalities is that when I Type on the combo instead of selection, move to next control, the type text disappears, so how user will know what text he type, It should remain on the combo

Note2 : I am using canvas powerapp within team. Cannot find any property of combo box called "SearchText", may be I am mistaje

I would allmost ask you to send me a copy off the App so I can fix it for you.

    ...Almost...

Because I guess you're not on this forum to let others fix your problems and build your Apps but to learn how to fix and build them yourself.

Now there is two things I learnt that might help you get self supportive here:

    1. learn how to get the right code: I've learnt never to literally copy someone else's code, as your local settings or variables might be slightly different. So in stead of copy-pasting my code suggestion, start typing the code yourself, and you might get the right suggestion for something that resembles 'SearchText' in your App:RogierE_0-1708540308038.png

    2. Learn how to debug erroneous code: hovering over the 'if' gave you feedback that something in the 'if' statement is wrong. But this doesn't help you. What does is if you slowly hover over de rest of the code that has the curly underline.  You'll get more feedback of what is wrong exactly. For example if I would replace '.Value1' with '.Value6' in my code, which is erroneous, I'll get a useless error message hovering over the 'IsBlank'RogierE_1-1708540436308.png

but a far better error message hovering over the '.Value6'

I hope this helps you to recreate some code that resembles mine, but is not a literal copy. And as soon as you get it working, your label will keep the text that you entered in the combo box even if you move away to a different control. Check this out:

If you're now jealous that I did get it working and would want to peek in the code of my working mockup, I can send you the App in a DM. 🙂

    Dear Rogier,

You are a kind person and thank you so much for giving me so much of time for helping me and making me understand the correct process.

I have noted all what you have mentioned and its the correct way to learn.

Actually I dont know the process of community posting about the app sharing for others to help me to edit.

Generally I post question when I am stuck and follow by reply.

Also I can see the difference inbetween the PowersApp standard and PowerApp for teams. therefore I some time has to struggle for it, Its quiet strange that the Microsoft has keep difference in properties. Limitation in properties is ok not the differences, Some time senior advises and it work them and not for me.

Like in my case your code shows

    ComboBox1.SearchText

While my combo box has no searchText properties and it underlines the code, as it may be due to powerapp for teams.

As I mentioned earlier I am developing small app within Microsoft Teams, And your platform of Powerapp may be standard.

Let my take a try by myself and will update you status of struggle.

    Best regards

Oh wow! This is very strange indeed. I tried to create the same App in a PowerApps for Teams environment, and found out that the ComboBox is different there. Good to know for me, but sad to hear for you. Have you considered to go to https://make.powerapps.com and create the App there? As far as I know, there is no special license needed for creating Canvas Apps there, as long as you have an Office365 account.
An App created there can be added to a Team, whereas it doesn’t work the other way around. Ann app created in PowerApps for teams can’t be transported out of Teams.
I would propose you create your app in the PowerApps platform.
