Customizing views

Hi there,

So I would like to customize my views, I have read the documents (https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/powerapps/developer/model-driven-apps/customize-entity-views ) but there isn't a lot of information about it apparently.

Any ideas on how far one can customize views?

To give you an example if I have a relationship is it possible to show a data card when hovering over a lookup value. So when I am viewing a list of projects and I hover over the Company label Microsoft of the project Mic2101 it shows a small data card with logo name, perhaps an address and some contact info like a business card.

Is something like this possible or what are the limits of customizing views?

Thanks in advance,

Billy Cottrell

You can add like a data card on a view but you can add the actual columns from the Company lookup on the View.

On the form you can use Quick Views to show data from other records.

    Hi @Billy_C,

This is not supported in list views in Power Apps Model-Based applications that I know of.  The following post by Microsoft discusses adding Icons to the view but this is not a popup / data card as you are looking for but you might be able to modify the code to create a JavaScript method to accomplish your need:  https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/powerapps/developer/model-driven-apps/customize-entity-views

Hope this helps.  If this answered your question, please mark accepted, if it provides some value, please Like.

    Thanks!

    Hi @Mira_Ghaly and @dpoggemann,

First of all thank you for your fast response!

But what I would like to achieve actually is something like this but when hovering over a lookup field in a view:

    profile-hover

The reason I am asking this is because if you are looking at your inventory and you see that one of them is a certain device and you are wondering hey what was that device again you can just hover over it and get its details really quickly without having to click on it, wait some time hoping that it may show (since it tends to get stuck while loading). This way you can easily determine which item you need to view without having to click through any other records.

Is it possible to do this, if so how can I achieve this with Javascript? Is there some kind of guide or list that says what data is being passed/used/needed to retrieve related data?

It's okay if it isn't possible as it is a nice-to-have functionality.

    Thanks in advance,

    Hi @Billy_C,

I understood and this is not something that can be achieved with out-of-the-box functionality in a Model App view, you would need to create custom JavaScript to accomplish.  You could of course do this in a Canvas App pretty easily...

    Sorry not more help.

    Thanks,

    Drew

    Hi @dpoggemann,

So I will probably do it with Javascript, but you said that can be done easily inside of a Canvas App.

Now I wonder how you would do that since there is no onHover event and you can't update variables or other elements when hovering over them. Also you can't do it when using onSelect as that would be used to navigate to that specific record.

    Kind regards,

    Hi @Billy_C,

I assumed that based on Microsoft's reply to the following thread (https://powerusers.microsoft.com/t5/Building-Power-Apps/Is-there-anyway-to-create-a-hover-or-mouse-over-control/td-p/103472), sorry if that isn't what Microsoft is stating or if so, hope it helps.

    Thanks,

    Hi @dpoggemann,

Well it is possible to apply hover effects but only to that item you can't set variable nor can you update other elements when hovering. So the only thing that is possible is to change color or fill, or as stated on the mentioned thread you can place items in a gallery and use the transition property to change the size of an image which only applies to that image and no other elements can be updated.

I also saw that a request was added to implement this idea for canvas apps: https://powerusers.microsoft.com/t5/Power-Apps-Ideas/Hover-amp-Unhover-which-can-update-other-controls-and-properties/idi-p/103843/page/2#comments

Nonetheless thank you for the help, I was hoping that I missed something that would make it easier to implement but I guess that isn't the case currently.

    Kind regards,
