Power Automate Fundamentals # 24: Usage of Float Function in Power Automate

Introduction:

In Power Automate, at times we must work on fraction values, float function is used to achieve this. As an example, in order to send discounts notifications to customers during festival season we make use of this fraction function to provide price of a product after discount.

Step 1:

Login to the required Power Apps environment using URL make.powerapps.com by providing username and password and click on Flows on the left-hand side as shown in the below figure.

Step 2:

After Step 1, Click on New Flow and select instant cloud flow and provide the trigger as Manually trigger a flow and click on Create as shown in the below figure.

Step 3:

After Step 2, name flow as Float Function and take initialize variable and name it as Set the string Cookies cost to 499.99 with the following fields

Name : Cookies

Type : String

Value : 499.99

as shown in the below figure.

Step 4:

After Step 3, take compose function and name it as Convert the Cookies String to Float and provide input value under expression tab

float(value:string)

and provide value as

float(variables('Cookies'))

and click on ok/update as shown in the below figure

Step 5:

After Step 4, take another compose function and name it as Provide Discount of 25 Percentage on New Year Day and provide the input post selection of Expression tab and provide

Value: sub(outputs('Convert_the_Cookies_String_to_Float'),mul(outputs('Convert_the_Cookies_String_to_Float'),float(0.25)))

And click on Ok/Update and save the flow as shown in the below figure

Note:

  1. Make sure to save and run the flow whenever you try expressions.
  2. MS documentation is found at here

Conclusion: In this way we can use float function so that simple calculations like discounts can be easily performed.
