Creating a shopping cart app with power pages

Hi all,

I have a order management canvas app that lets the users place multiple orders with increment and decrement counter to control the quantities. Once the order is added, the user is redirected to a cart page and from here they can place the order by clicking a button. We are using dataverse on backend. Apart from this, we are calling power automate flows from various canvas app controls and have one canvas component for chat messenger.

Is it feasible to convert such solution in power pages? If yes, are there any examples available that could provide a starting point.

Technically yes, it is possible to do this using Power Pages.

There is no conversion path from Canvas to Portals, so you would have to develop everything you need in Power Pages. For an e-commerce application, I think you would need a lot of JavaScript/WebAPI calls to give the user a nice experience.

I haven't seen any example on that and to be 100% honest, I wouldn't do that from scratch.

    Have you considered D365 e-commerce:

Digital Commerce Products | Microsoft Dynamics 365

    E-commerce site overview - Commerce | Dynamics 365 | Microsoft Learn

I haven't played around with that either, so not sure about the capabilities.

There are also other e-commerce solutions out there that you could look into integrating with Dataverse.

Thanks @OliverRodrigues  for your inputs, actually we are trying to expose this site to external vendors so thought of going down this route. When you said we need a " lot of JavaScript/WebAPI calls to give the user a nice experience.", do you mean that we need to create custom pcf components and integrate them in power pages to provide functionality like cart, payment system etc?

They don't need to be PCF controls.

I like to think of PCF controls as independent and reusable controls/components, so very useful if you want for example a Dropdown control with a more specific functionality.

We can add JavaScript code directly to Portal and use Power Pages Web API to interact with dataverse. I feel like the shopping cart experience would be very much custom and not using the OOB controls.
