Migrate data between environments

I got a DEV environment that I'm ready to push into PROD.

Everything is packaged in a solution but there are some tables that contain reference data that should be moved to PROD.

I was told that Dataflows were the way to go but I'm not sure how to configure it or if there might be a better way to move the data.

I have the same question (0)

    Hi @Anonymous,

Most every time I have data from a dev environment that I need to migrate to production I usually do the following:

    1.  Go to https://admin.powerplatform.microsoft.com and click on "Environments"

    2.  In the Production environment, click on Settings

    3.  Expand the Templates and you will see data import templates

    4.  Export the data from your development environment and populate into the import template from the development data.  Note, do not populate the columns A-C since this is keys for your development rows.

    5.  In the Views page for the entity, import the data to the production environment through the Import from Excel

Overall I have migrated a large number of tables quickly with this approach and it is simple.

Hopefully this helps.  Please accept if answers your question or Like if helps in any way.

    Thanks,

    Drew

to another environment I usually just utilize Excel the data template for the table / entity from the production environment and then export the data from the dev environment and put this into the

    #1 to #3 are fine.

For #4, where would I go to export the data and how do you add it into the template?

As for #5, I'm not sure I'm in the right place because I get this error message when I upload the template in the mapping page:

The file could not be uploaded for Account: [UnknownError] Excel file with more than one sheet is currently not supported.

    Any ideas?

    Hi @Anonymous ,

#4 - I usually go into a simple Model App to do this and have a View that contains all the fields I need to export.  From the View you will have the ability to "Export to Excel" from the View menu.  I then manually copy / paste the information into the import template.

#5 You need to make sure this is a single worksheet file in the Excel template otherwise it will not import.  Can't have a Sheet1, Sheet2...

    Thanks,

#4 - Fair enough, will give it a try!

#5 - There was only 1 blank sheet (with columns A, B and C missing). Will try again with step 4 completed, unless you have an idea about something that could've triggered this error.

Also, is there a maximum amount of records that can be transferred for this method? Are there certain limitation that should be known?

    Hi @Anonymous ,

Columns A,B,C are hidden because they are key information that is utilized if you export and make updates to data and re-import into same environment.  When you export from Dev these will exist as well and will be populated but do not put them into the production file.

I have done thousands of records with this approach.   Usually if I have a large number of records I break into multiple files though...

    Thanks,

    Drew

Thanks for the input! Unfortunately, I was not able to get it working.

I ended up using the XRM toolbox with the Data Transporter plugin and it works like a charm.

    Hi @dpoggemann ,

I am having the exact same issue here with the error of more than one sheet. There is only one tab, no hidden tabs. It is recognising "Table1" as another sheet, which is causing the error.

I then tried converting table to range and it still recognises "Table1" as a second sheet.

    Any ideas?

    Thanks,

    Tom
