“User Not Found in F&O” Error with Power Pages Virtual Entities and Service Principal Configuration

We have a Power Pages Portal that surfaces data from Microsoft Dynamics 365 Finance & Operations via virtual entities in Dataverse. The portal is prompting the following error:

"User portal:{00000000-0000-0000-0000-000000000000} was not found in Finance and Operations. Please ensure this user exists."

Despite configuring a service principal (Client ID and Secret) in the F&O virtual data source record, the portal still seems to pass the portal user's identity to F&O, causing the “User not found” error. I suspect that something is overriding the service principal authentication and reverting to a per-user delegation mode.

Question:

  1. How do we fully configure Dataverse to use a single service principal for all calls to F&O virtual entities (so that F&O doesn't try to match each portal user)?
  2. Could you provide direct references or official Microsoft documentation that explains how to disable per-user impersonation and ensure the service principal authentication is enforced?

Goal:

  • Stop the portal from sending the portal user's identity to F&O.
  • Rely solely on the service principal account we’ve configured, so the “user not found” error no longer occurs.
  • Confirm the specific steps or environment variables in Dataverse and F&O that must be set, plus any relevant hidden fields or flags, to ensure service principal authentication is used.

    Here are the high-level steps:
    • Configure the F&O virtual entity data source in Dataverse to use Service Principal Authentication.
    • Disable per-user impersonation by setting EnablePerUserImpersonation to False in the portal.
    • Ensure the service principal has the correct permissions in both Dataverse and F&O.
    • Verify that no user mappings exist between portal users and F&O users in F&O’s system administration.

    Here is my understanding
     
    1. Configure the F&O virtual entity data source in Dataverse to use Service Principal Authentication - I suppose you are pointing to Virtual Entity Data source record i.e. Finance and Operations record with proper details like ID, Secret, Tenant Id all have proper details
     
    2. Disable per-user impersonation by setting EnablePerUserImpersonation to False in the portal. - This is I didn't get, since there is no official doc which says about this, also did you mean to add it in Site Settings area ? 
     
    3. Ensure the service principal has the correct permissions in both Dataverse and F&O. - Already in place
     
    4. Verify that no user mappings exist between portal users and F&O users in F&O’s system administration - Did you mean portal user cannot be in FO user? I do want this setup to exist and still use FO data using service principle.

    Please let me know if you achieved explained scenario.

    I am currently facing the same issue when trying to data from Microsoft Dynamics 365 Finance & Operations via virtual entities in Dataverse to my list in power pages 
    is there a configuration that I am missing here ?

    We're facing a similar problem trying to query data for users from D365 using virtual entities. Have you managed to resolve the problem on your end, we're about to raise a support ticket with Microsoft to get some support but hoping it is a simple config issue on our end?
