Power Pages in VSCode - does it overright GitHub Repository details?

I am using Power Pages in VS Code with the Power Platform extension. All working well.

Also, from inside VSCode i have a repo for the Power Pages site that I sync when i reach the end of a dev cycle. its only used for a point in time copy.

However, i am finding that i keep having to set up github connectivity almost everytime i want to sycn (which isn't often).

I think the issue maybe that when i download the site from Power Pages it over rights the git hub settings? i use several desktop / laptops, so i do download the site 'regularly' (more often than i sycn with git)

Anyone else found that??

Hi @JBC777,

When you download/sync a Power Pages site, it can overwrite the .git folder or workspace metadata, especially if you’re pulling into the same directory. That breaks the existing Git linkage, so VS Code asks you to set it up again.

How to avoid it

Option 1: Separate folders

Folder A → Power Pages sync (source of truth)

Folder B → Git repo

Copy changes between them when needed

Option 2: Protect .git

Make sure .git folder is not touched during sync

Avoid syncing into an already-initialized repo folder

@rezarizvii - thanks for your answer.

if anyone from Microsoft is listening, then it would seem to me that PAC Cli should have configuration options to respect Git hub. i know the 'copy form folder A to folder B' will work but its what Github was designed to stop happening!

I completely understand your frustration. Power Platform CLI is extremely buggy specifically when it comes to Power Pages and SPA development.

One issue my team was constantly facing was that every time someone downloaded a site configuration using Power Platform CLI, it would corrupt the site which would prevent anyone from uploading new configuration, new code, or any new updates all together. We forbid downloading configuration all together because of this.

PowerApps Code App development using PAC CLI is much more stable than Power Pages SPA development, and it is well known.

You could raise a Microsoft ticket to address the issue you were facing.
