Power Pages and Licensing

Hello Community,

I would like to get feedback on the following questions:

1. With the recent announcement on the Power Pages reaching General Availability, am I correct that for any new portal implementation, we should go with Power Pages going forward, and not the Power Apps Portal?

2. With the Power Pages in General Availability, can we still in fact build portal in Power Apps Portal - would the Power Apps Portal designer studio interface be retired soon?

3. Regarding licensing on Power Pages, by "100 users/site/month" - does this mean 100 unique authenticated users? In other words, it's not about how many times each unique authenticated user logs in to the portal each month, it's about how many unique authenticated users are accessing the portal each month, correct? If the same unique authenticated user access the portal 30 days a month, that is still counted as one user, correct? If we need 101 or even 150 users to access the portal per month, how does the licensing work for the extra user?

Appreciate all the insights!

Hi, rest assured that no functionality is lost from Power Apps Portals, behind the scenes it's the same product, the major difference now is new templates / new licensing model / new studio / new learning hub / new governance capabilities / etc

All components like pages / lists / forms / etc, are all valid and compatible.

    Hi @OliverRodrigues,

Thanks for your reply! For Power Pages, would you know if it supports all the functionalities that we can achieve in Power Apps Portal as well? Does it have any glaring limitations that we should be aware of? I just want to be sure that if we are recommending customers to go with Power Pages (instead of Power Apps Portal), we are not going to lose any functionalities that Power Apps Portal would support.

    Thanks again!

    Hi

1 - Yes, Power Pages is the evolution of Power Apps Portals

2 - Power Pages comes with a new Design Studio, that in my opinion is a lot better than Power Apps Portals Studio, I don't remember seeing anywhere that the old studio will be retired, but my take on it is that it will probably be gone soon, and Power Pages Design Studio is the way to go

3 - That's correct, I also believe that the calculation will be based on calendar months/UTC time (this link has more info on pricing Power Platform licensing FAQs - Power Platform | Microsoft Learn), you will need to buy more packs.. if you still go over the limit you already purchased, your website will scale down (in terms of Azure resources) and you will probably get a few notifications from Microsoft
