Portal Username changed by Portal account

Hi,

 

My client noticed one of their Power Pages Portal user's Employer field (look up to an Account record) had been updated to an incorrect value. They checked the Audit history and it appeared that the portal account # Portals-xxxxxx had made the change. Looking at the Audit history myself, I also noticed at the same time the portal account had updated the user's User Name from one value to another.

 

I am aware that any updates the user made on the portal would be updated by the portal account. However, we have not included any page that would allow users to update their Employer or User Name, so we are very puzzled about this. We wonder what else may cause the change of these values by the portal account?

    A few things to check:

    • Have you any Workflows/plug-ins that could be performing this action?
    • is the Portal WebAPI enabled for those tables?
    • How are the Table Permissions configured? Security-wise, would they have access to perform those updates?

    I am thinking there might be plug-ins or workflows but I'm not sure if they would be using the portal's account to do the updates? Also I am guessing if we don't have the source code for the plug-in then we won't be able to investigate what the plug-ins do?

     

    WebAPI has not been enabled for the Contact table.

     

    As for Table Permissions, they have Self Access for Read, Write, Append, and Append To. But no forms on the portal contains the Employer and User Name fields that they can modify.

    if the plug-in is set to real-time/sync, it will run in the context of the Portal user

    a few places to check

    • Install XrmToolbox --> Plugin Registration Tool
      • within the tool, you can switch the view to "view by entities", and check what are the plug-ins associated with the Contact
    • via Model-Driven App (for example Power Pages Management)
      • click on the top settings icon and go to Advanced Settings
      • search for Processes --> change the view to All Processes
      • filter/sort by entity and see there is there is anything associated with the Contact table
