Hi, I here to get an advice on powerapps portal. And im still new on power platform.

FYI, I need to create dynamic application form with multiple repeating table and tabs for internal bussiness use with some calculation.

It is possible if im using powerapps portal to meet all my requirement as mentioned above? Can portal do some calculation, repating table/section/subgrid with drag n drop function?

Because if im using canvas there is a lot of logic and formula need to understand in order to acheive that requirements.

The best for my business requirement is canvas or portal? And Why?

Note: this application form will have 20++ input field.

Thanks

    Hi @twister ,

You have the power of dataverse which allow you to perform complex calculation using calculated field or rollup depends on your need.

    PowerApps portal:

    1. You can use Web form steps to build your dynamic form.

    2. You can utilize custom JavaScript to perform various logic on the forms /web page

    3. Subgrids are available. So you can make utilize of them.

    4. Drag and Drop feature is available to design your forms but when the page is rendered you need to utilise any javascript framework. May be some experts here can answer this for you !!  that  @OliverRodrigues @OOlashyn @justinburch and @Fubar

Some of the useful reference links

    2. https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/powerapps/maker/portals/configure/web-form-steps

This is just my opinion. Based on the scenario you have explained above I am not sure how complex your calculations are sometimes on top of dataverse. Canvas and Model driven can help you better to write your complex formulas rather than powerapps portal.

    Hope it helps.

Hi @twister , glad it gives you some insights.

If it is really basic calculation. Then you just need to explore all components in portal and make sure you are happy with it.

    Hi @twister

when you say dynamic form, does this mean that your final users will be creating the fields (questions) or would that always be done by a developer?

if done by a developer, no issues just check videos and recommendations shared by @ragavanrajan

You might be able to getaway with "Calculated Fields" for your calculation: https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/powerapps/developer/data-platform/calculated-rollup-attributes

if what you are looking here is to give total flexibility to your final users, than the situation gets a lot more complicated, both to render your dynamic form and to perform the calculations as well

this option would require a lot of code and advanced knowledge

finally the question between Portals VS Canvas App. With Power Apps Portals you can easily expose your Dataverse data to external users, while Canvas App would be more for internal users. You can never really shared code/logic between them as they use completely different technologies.

The other thing to consider Canvas vs Portal - is if internal users will need offline access then Canvas app.
