Subgrid component in forms but not used to show related content.

Hi everyone,

I'm curious if I could use subgrids as a means to put a "list view" in a form. I don't need the subgrid to show related content, I need it to show all contents where the user could browse and then fill up the form of their choice from the subgrid/list view inside the form.

However, referencing the forum post, Solved: Subgrids don`t display in Basic Forms - they appea... - Power Platform Community (microsoft.com), subgrids do not work for insert forms. I've failed to show my application as the subgrid only shows as blank inside my form.

Is there a workaround in this case? Thanks.

One option would be to use a Multi Step form (a.k.a. Advanced Form / Web Form) First Step to insert, subsequent steps to Edit.

Beyond that you would probably have to use the portals support of Web API.   And create a custom form in HTML.  Depending on your specific needs you could:

    • Liquid to run a fetchXML query to get the list data (or use the Web API, Liquid will run server side so data will exist when the page renders vs Web API will only run after the page loads)
    • Custom form to capture other data and selections
    • custom button to make Web API call to create the main record and child records

Hi @Fubar, thank you for the advise. I read about that multi-step form hack in the forums. Maybe for now, I'll use that. As I've mentioned in my previous post, I'm still not confident with advanced IT concepts like WebAPIs and such.

But, out of topic from this, would you recommend I use OOTB features or build my own features using the advanced editor? And what would be the best way to build websites? Should I build my features with already customer experience already in mind or should I first execute the proof of concept to my managers?
