Web roles don't assign when invitation is redeemed

Afternoon,

As far as I can tell from all the documentation, a web role should automatically be assigned when a contact redeems an invitation code I send them (I put the web role in the the invitation under "Assign web roles"). But that's not working, the users can register but the web role is not assigned.

Am I right in the assumption that the web role assign should happen automatically? How could I troubleshoot why it's not working?

    It should automatically assign them, if registering via invitation.  

    You will probably need to log this with Microsoft.  One thing to note would be if you are using the Preview Enhanced or the Standard implementation.

    Hi @KlaasV,

     

     a solution to your problem would be to use PowerAutomate and run a flow once a contact is created.

    If the contact possesses the needed webrole do nothing, if not assign the webrole using the relate function: https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/power-automate/dataverse/relate-unrelate-rows

    Here are some things you can check to troubleshoot why the web role is not being assigned when the invitation is redeemed:

    1. Make sure that the web role you are trying to assign is actually enabled. You can check this by going to the Web Roles page in the Power Pages portal and looking for the web role in question. The web role should have a status of Enabled.
    2. Make sure that the contact is actually redeeming the invitation code correctly. The contact should click on the link in the invitation email and enter the invitation code in the redemption form.
    3. Make sure that the invitation code is not expired. The expiration date of the invitation code is specified in the invitation email.
    4. Make sure that the contact is not already a member of the portal. If the contact is already a member of the portal, they will not be assigned the web role again when they redeem the invitation code.
    5. Check the portal logs to see if there are any errors being logged when the invitation is redeemed. You can find the portal logs in the Administration section of the portal.

    Thanks for all the input here. I've checked everything on the web roles, but the automatic assignment is still not working. But we anyway need a flow for sending out the emails, so I've built the assignment of the web role into that flow, and that's working now.

    I have implemented that exact case and it's working fine for me.

    The new cloud flow I created to assign a web role and send an invitation email works great. The thing that is not working is the "assign web role" field in the invitation itself. It might have something to do with the answer above from @mandela: "Make sure that the contact is not already a member of the portal. If the contact is already a member of the portal, they will not be assigned the web role again when they redeem the invitation code.".

     

    But in any rate, it's working now and I'm happy with it.
