Issue with "Load Data" in Northwind Sample App – CDS connector blocked

Hi all,

I'm currently working through the Power-Up program and trying to complete the Northwind Sample Data task. The solution and app imported successfully, and I can open the "Sample Data Manager" interface. However, when I click the “Load Data” button, nothing happens — the tables remain empty.

At the top of the app, I see a warning:

"This app uses a connector for Common Data Service or Dynamics 365, which is no longer supported as of October 1, 2020."

It seems the app is still using the deprecated Common Data Service connector, which appears to be blocked in my Power-Up environment (I assume due to DLP policies or default restrictions). Since I do not have administrative privileges in this environment, I can't change the connector or workaround the restriction.

I've seen other forum posts reporting similar issues, so I’m wondering:

  • Will Microsoft provide an updated version of the Northwind app that uses the Dataverse (Current Environment) connector?

  • Or can the CDS connector be temporarily enabled for this task?

Thanks in advance – I’d love to complete this assignment and understand the Northwind dataset in context, but currently it's not technically feasible from my side.

    Play the canvas app, then select Load Data.
    Let us know if you see any error.

    After clicking on “Load data”, nothing happens. The data is not loaded, even though “// Load” is displayed at the top.

    What you're showing is design mode, not play mode.

    I always clicked directly on “Nortwind Sample Data,” and the design mode was selected automatically. The arrow to start the app is a little hidden. :-) When I saw the message about the old connector and a few other posts about it in the forum, I was sure that the app was no longer up to date.
