Force app re-install in desktop app

I have a canvas app to which I have added a data source. The users now don't have access to this data source, but the application is prompting them to sign in. I have published a new version of the application, but it's like the desktop app doesn't install the new version, as it is still prompting the users to sign in to this data source they don't have access to. 
 
It works fine for me, because I have access to the data source. The users can access it fine through a browser, but they all use the desktop Power Apps. 
 
We've tried refreshing the list of apps, closing the desktop app down, restarting the computer, everything except reinstalling the desktop app. 
 
What can I do to force a refresh of the application list in the desktop app?

    Users not having access to any data source that is referred to in a query in the app is a recipe for errors. Is there a reason you are sharing the app with someone lacking this access ?
