Front side editor. Available to a non-admin user why?

With the out of the box portal website access permissions setting 'Administrative permissions for Basic portal'

Only the 'Administrators' Web role is associated with it.

A user is in a custom web role 'webroleClass2' but has access to the front side editor.

They are not associated with the 'Administrators' role so what do I need to change please?

I have another authenticated user, who is not associated with any web role, who has the front side editor too.

(The standard 'preview permission has no roles associated with it and all the snippets, markers, link sets permissions are turned off anyway)

Thanks, Richard U.K

Hi, can you check what you have in your Web Page Access Control Rules:

those records are usually responsible for showing the front-end editor.. maybe you have setup some for your Web Roles there

    Hi Oliver, thanks for looking.

The two standard rules have 'grant change'.

Only the 'Grant change to administrators' has a web role associated 'Administrators'

I'm the only one in it.

    Odd?

    Hi @Gatwick,

If it is only you as an administrator, then the easiest way to solve your problem is to remove the standard web page access control rules. Please keep all other web page access control rules.

Once removed then in portal studio press the sync configuration and browse the website.

Without a front side editor you have plenty of ways to work on the web page. Some of them are

    1. Portal Studio

    2. Portal Management

    3. Portal helper Extension by @OOlashyn

Later, You can create one more web page access control rule and add yourself to that and play around to see the front side editor.

    Hope it helps.

Hi Ragavanrajan, thanks for taking the time to respond.

I'm not sure I'm at the point of switching stuff off just to see if it will work but know that is an option. There are only two Web page access rules that have 'Grant Change' and I understood these controlled the front side editing.

Website Access permissions. The basic one has everything turned off and only the Admin one is active with the administrator group (only me). You mentioned the 'easiest way' is there another way that I could find out what is wrong? I could trial and error get it to work by deleting stuff but would like some confidence that when we get more users they won't default into front side editing, especially as I couldn't see they might get it.

    Cheers, richard
