PowerApps Portal licensing cost clarification for PROD vs NON-PROD portals

Hello,

I have a query about the PowerApps Portal licensing for the External User (Authenticated) user related capacity add-on which requires you to pay an additional USD 200 per month (in addition to PowerApps Plan subscription).

If I have the following 3 PowerApp Portals setups (DEV +TEST+ PROD), then do I need to pay 3 x 200 USD/month for these 3 portals or having the capacity add-on for just the production Portal is enough.

  1. Power Apps Portal created using "Sandbox" type for Development purposes. (eg. abcportalDEV.powerappsportals.com). This will be available on the internet to get accessed.
  2. Power Apps Portal created using "Sandbox" type for Testing purposes. (eg. abcportalTEST.powerappsportals.com). This will be available on the internet to get accessed.
  3. Power Apps Portal created using "PRODUCTION" type as the main LIVE portal. (eg. abcportal.powerappsportals.com)

Note: Please do not reply with a link to the licensing page of Microsoft site as that doesn't have the clear answer. I was thus wondering if anyone from community has come across the above licensing scenario to be able to answer the question here from their experience.

PS: The above question is also applicable for another capacity add-on for Anonymous page view / month which has an additional cost

Thanks in advance.

    Hi @AR19 ,

Do you want to know what license that you need for three different types of portal?

Actually, the license of portal is the same for different types.

So if you want portal with capacity add-on for Anonymous page view, you just need to count number.

    Two kinds of licenses:

    $200(100 logins/month)

    $100 (100,000 web page views/month)

If you want three portals with the first add-on capacity, then you need to cost $200*3 month.

Here's a doc about licenses for portal for your reference:

    This is a great question!

For your DEV and TEST portals -> who will be viewing/logging into these portals?

In pretty much all cases I have seen, it is usually internal staff (developers, business analysts, etc.) who already have Power Apps per user or Power Apps per app licensing, as this will cover access to Power Apps Portals as well.  No additional licensing is required for these portal users.

If you have external user (non-staff) testing the portal (DEV/TEST), then I am guessing you technically would need licenses (portal logins or page view).

Hope this adds a bit of clarity.

    Cheers

    Nick
