Dynamic URL filtering for embedded Dashboard Tiles in Portal

Hello,

I'm building a portal that will filter PBI reports and dashboards by vendor(lots of vendors).  I've been using the below method of url filtering with liquid for filtering PBI reports, but I'm not sure how to apply it to dashboard tiles:

Reports:

{% capture [PBIVAR] %}https://app.powerbi.com/groups/[GUID]/reports/[GUID]?filter=[TABLE]/[COLUMN] eq '{{user.contact_customer_accounts.[COLUMN]}}'{% endcapture %}
{% powerbi authentication_type:"powerbiembedded" path:[PBIVAR]%}

I know that I can use webroles to filter dashboards, but I'd rather use a value that already exists to filter instead of setting up new roles in PBI for each type of user.

Help! ... and thanks.

    Is this working as expected? {{user.contact_customer_accounts.[COLUMN]}}

    I feel like you need to do a few extra things here

    • is this a 1:N or a lookup field: contact_customer_accounts
    • if it's a lookup you can get the GUID or primary name, but not other attributes, so you need to retrieve the record, and then get the attributes

    hope this makes sense

    Hi @tsnowden

    Basic things to achieve what you are expecting.

    1. Use Power BI RLS and apply a filter

    2. In Portals/ Power pages > Create a web role and use Azure AD or Azure AD b2C to login

    3. Instead of passing liquid > Power BI embedded will detect the unique id and apply the RLS Filter automatically for you.

    PS: I have done the session last year. I will try to get the video link for this.

    Have fun.

    Hope it helps.

    I was hoping to avoid using RLS and building roles to solve this since it requires each report to have a view built in PBI for each role. It does work, though...

    Yep, this works for my reports just fine. I just don't know how to produce a filtered dashboard tile.
