Power portal/page based on virtual tables

Hi all,

So, I am wondering about a certain business case. There is data from Dynamics where the portal should be based on, but dual write is not an option. Luckily, the data is available by using virtual tables. Since virtual tables contain forms and views, a portal should be able to be created based on these tables. For the portal, people need to be able to submit records, which will be sent to Dynamics, but there is still no Dual Write, just the virtual tables. Is it possible to - lets say - create a portal based on these virtual tables and its forms/views, but instead of writing to a table (because this is not possible for a virtual table), start a Power Automate flow to write the data to Dynamics. Or is this not possible because the portal needs a table to write to?

Thank you in advance!

    Hi @RiVaVe ,

According to my knowledge, it is not possible because Power Pages require a data source (that is Dataverse) to store and retrieve data. Virtual tables, which are not directly tied to any data source, cannot be used as the target for data entry in a Power Portal.

    Thanks,

    Saud

    Hi @saudali_25 ,

Thanks for your reply. This is indeed what I expected to hear, although I am still curious about one thing. Since virtual tables have forms and it is possible to add your custom forms to these tables, it is theoretically possible to use a virtual table form in a Power Page. But do you know if this is actually possible or does power pages block this?

Because if Pages does not stop you from this, it would be theoretically possible to run a (cloud)flow as soon as you click the submit button in the portal.

    Thank you in advance!

@RiVaVe I think this is not possible and Power Pages will block it. On other hand, virtual tables have their own set of restrictions. If we just consider showing data from virtual that make sense but submission of data directly using Virtual table forms is not possible.

    Thanks,

    Saud
