It is possible to build a basic webshop with Power Apps Portal?

Hi,

I need to help a company with a WebShop for employees and I thought that Power Apps Portal could be an option. Here I have these questions:

- It is possible to make a basic WebShop for internal employees with Power Apps Portal? Basic catalog and dynamic list of products to buy with photos.

- How much could that cost? I think that would be around 10 webshops (10 Power Apps Portals) each with around 100 access monthly.

If anyone knows links of examples where to look I would be grateful.

Thanks!

Pedro

    @PowerPedro

    PowerApps Portals are meant for building apps that users external to your organization can connect to.  If you are building Webshops for company employees you it is not recommened to use Portals.  You will be charged on a "per login" basis and it costs alot of money.  Instead you just use a standard canvas app to build your WebStores. Anyone who has a license for SharePoint (i.e. access to the company intranet) will be able to access your app for free.

    Here is a link to a YouTube video showing a sample app you can use as your inspiration.

    Hi,

    The shop would not be for our employees but for the employees of our customers, here is the subtle difference. My question was if that is possible and if possible how much would that cost.

    Thanks

    Pedro

    @PowerPedro

    Thank you for clarifying your question so quickly.  I was under the impression the employees you mentioned were internal to your organization.

    Yes, it is possible to make a WebStore for the employees of your external customers.  I assume the purpose is for the employees to place orders with your organization.  The cost to license PowerApps Portals is the following:

    • External users (authenticated) will be $200 for 100 logins/month.
    • External users (anonymous) will be $100 for 100,000 web page views/month.
    • More details on PowerApps pricing in general can be found on The Official PowerApps Blog

    I assume you will bear the cost of these Portals.  The most cost effective option for you would be to build a single WebStore for all the employees of all organizations. You could build a common login page and once the employee performs a login the store will appear with the proper corporate branding.  Logic could be written so the user would only see options to purchase items their organization allows.

    The basic cost of running a WebStore this way is $200 assuming 100 logins or less.  If you created 10 WebStores the basic cost would increase to $2,000.  You should also consider how long it will take to add new features/conduct maintenance in the future.

    With a single store any improvements needed would only need to be coded and tested once.  Ten stores would require 10 times the effort.

    I hope you have found my post to be thoughtful.  I want to share these extra ideas I have so you can decide on the best path forward.

    Thanks. As I am not sure about the costs and the limits of Power Apps Portal I have 2 options in mind. 1. Power Apps Portal and 2. nopCommerce.

    As far as I know Power Apps Portal business logic is a little limited but something could be build with business logic in CDS and JavaScript/Liquid language. I do not know if Power Apps Portal is a bad decision but at least I will learn something new! Any link to a sample that looks like a WebShop would be welcomed!

    This one might be useful for you: https://www.youtube.com/watch?edufilter=NULL&v=aOcQIMvdWW4

    We're facing the same decision and are considering a PoC. So I'd be happy to hear about your progress. Generally I'm sure the Power Platform is capable of doing this kind of things. Where it, in my opinion, might get tricky is

    - SEO

    - Payment options. If that's required that is, for B2B that may not be that much of an issue.

    - Dynamic frontend stuff

    - Perfomance in general.

    The latter two have a heavy impact on the user experience. Obviously this is something that is pretty important in particular for shops. I honestly don't know how the PoC will turn out; but that's a bit the idea behind a PoC isn't it.
