multi select choice filed and meta data

Just want to check something but is it not possible to add metadata for a Multi select choice field since I want to improve the user experience on the portal. The following is the Multi Choice field on a portal form.  Gary

    Could you please explain bit more about the metadata?  In my knowledge there is nothing out of the box allow you to configure this.
