Hi all,
I'm hoping someone here can help solve this problem. My Power Automate flow to create a Sharepoint list item from a MS Form submission is working IF the person submitting the MS Form does not name their attachment (that they are required to upload in the 'File Upload' section of the MS form) with some unknown-to-me combination of either spaces or special characters. Note: the MS List item we wish to create includes a column for a hyperlink to the uploaded file, and this is the part that is failing when the file name in the upload has either spaces or possibly special characters. It works otherwise.
This is a problem since we can't enforce a specific file name format prior to upload and form submission; all we can do to mitigate this is put a comment in the "File Upload" question telling the user to "not use spaces or special characters in the filename". However many people don't read or adhere to instructions, so the result when this happens is that the form gets submitted, and the list item does not get created. So now we have extra work to either manually create the list item or re-submit for them , which is time consuming.
Is anyone aware of this problem, and is there a reason the automation cannot handle any filename in the file upload? I feel this is a Power Automate defect; users should be able to call their file whatever they want, upload it to the MS form, and the Power Automate should be able to create a hyperlink to whatever file they uploaded.
Please assist and let me know if there is a workaround for this or if there is a patch coming soon to the Power Automate for this issue.
Thanks kindly,
Stacy
Hi again, so I figured out one part of my problem but now have a new problem/question.
The reason my automation was failing is because the MS List column is 'hyperlink' type and cannot exceed 255 characters. @microsoft can this limitation be extended to 500 characters or more? Many hyperlinks are greater than 255 characters.
I found a partial fix online that said to create a new column that is 'multiple lines of text' which should accomodate longer links. However, the Power Automate pushes the hyperlink of the file that was uploaded to this new MS List column, but the 'hyperlink' cannot be clicked on directly. It's greyed out (not a true hyperlink).
I shouldn't have to go into the column every time a new list item is created and manually copy/paste the link that is in that column into the 'link' option when toggling on the 'Enhanced Rich Text (Rich text with pictures, tables and hyperlinks)' option. Surely there is an easier way to get this hyperlink to be 'clickable' when Power Automate creates this sharepoint list item and column?
Hello @microsoft @PowerAutomate , can anyone assist me with this question?
