Microsoft 365 Developer Program

Hello everyone,

I’m a Power Platform Developer and Associate Technical Consultant, currently preparing for PL-400 and Dynamics 365 (CRM) certifications.

I tried to get a free sandbox by joining the Microsoft 365 Developer Program, but my account was rejected with the message:

“You don't currently qualify for a Microsoft 365 Developer Program sandbox subscription.”

For those who faced the same issue:

How did you successfully get a free developer environment?

Are there any tips to later qualify for the M365 Developer sandbox?

Any guidance or real experience would be appreciated.

Thank you in advance.

Is your account private, or is it backed by an organization or education facility?

    @lbendlin it's a personal account

That account type is insufficient for what you are trying to accomplish.

There are some changes in the M365 Developer Plan, I am not sure the free trial still exists they have stopped in 2024 i believe.

    Power Apps Developer Plan

You primarily need power-apps and its supported Components, So I would recommend to go with Power Apps Developer Plan.

There are a couple of suggestions I would make.

A relatively simple way is to join the PowerUp training program. If accepted, you'll be given access to a developer environment for the duration of the course, plus you'll receive the free training that's offered as part of that program.

    https://powerup.microsoft.com/

Registering for the Power Apps developer plan is the other way to gain access to a developer environment. The issue you have is that it's only open to those with with work account, so using a personal account won't work.

A workaround is to register for the free Microsoft 365 Business 30 day trial. That will give you an @onmicrosoft.com work email address.

    https://www.microsoft.com/en-gb/microsoft-365/business/microsoft-365-business-basic

You can then use that email to register for the Power Apps developer plan.

In terms of your question about tips to qualify for the M365 Developer sandbox, the only option is to to purchase a Visual Studio Pro or Enterprise license, or to work for a company that's in the Microsoft AI Cloud Partner Program, or has an active support contract with Micfrosoft.
