Populating looked up fields in a related table via the subgrid

hey Guys.

I have a main table that I have linked to a sub table via a lookup field. the maintable is a questionnaire with many tabs, one of them being a list of It systems for a department that must get populated via a subgrid. I have setup everything and users can complete the form and create the IT systems via the subgrid. the problem is that the lookup field is not being auto populated when users create the individual It systems. I have logged with Microsoft and the engineers are saying that my users must manually select the report number, which I am not buying.

Is there something I should do specifically to populate the lookup field in the subgrid entries?

That's an unacceptable answer. We will help you in this forum and please send the resolution to Microsoft after.

Can you share some snapshots of the configuration of your subgrid/form metadata?

This should happen automatically, there is no additional configuration you need to do really.

I have a lookup from the information systems table to the digital readiness questionnaire table. Users are able to create information systems in the subgrid fine. it is just not populating the lookup field.

I think the issue here is on the type of your step:

This shouldn't be Insert, it should be an Edit type

The main record (Digital Readiness) should have been created (normally) in the 1st step, so from the 2nd step onwards, you should be making updates to the same record

    Hope this makes sense

it does @OliverRodrigues and i have corrected it as below.

The lookup field is still not updating as can be seen below:

I have also checked the data in the table itself and the lookup field is blank 😪

In your dataverse form, can you enable the flag for "Relate Records"?

just as a best practice, you can change the label and name as well for something more meaningful (but you can do that later)
