Configure email forwarding in Microsoft 365

Hello All,

In the Microsoft 365 Admin Center you can configure the Mail settings of a user to use "Email Forwarding". The label of the field is "Forwarding Email Address". You fill in their email address then enable "Forward all emails sent to this mailbox.

The goal is to set any email sent to user@domainemailaddress to be forwarded to user@externalemailaddress

Does anyone know of a step or connector that would allow this field to be populated and then enable the forwarding?

I have looked at Azure AD Create user and Azure AD Update user and there is no field that matches my criteria.

Thank you for your attention with this question. I look forward to any responses.

Could you please explain what exactly do you want: to get: to forward emails or to substitute Microsoft 365 Admin Center interface?

I want to be able to set the Email Forwarding settings in the Microsoft 365 Admin Center.

The steps I would do manually would be the following:

    1. Be in Microsoft 365 Admin Center

    2. Select User and open their settings

    3. Click on the Mail link

    4. Click "Manage email forwarding" in the Email forwarding options

    5. Fill in the "Forwarding email address" field

    6. Select (check) the Forward all emails sent to this mailbox

    7. Make sure "Keep a copy of forwarded email in this mailbox" is not selected (left blank)

    8. Save changes

Thank you for any suggestions or insights on how to accomplish this power automate.

You cannot do that using Power Automate. Use Power Shell instead: https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/exchange/recipients/user-mailboxes/email-forwarding?view=exchserver-2019

Thank you for your response and link, it is very helpful.

I was hoping to be able to do this all within power automate. However, I am learning that I will have to do some in power automate and some in power shell.
