I don't know what I am doing wrong, but I am trying to figure out what is the deal with adding rich text in modern forms
I created a form, from sharepoint list config I have added in edit column to Enhanced rich text (Rich text with pictures, tables, and hyperlinks). Initially, I was able to go into the edit fields and make this column rich text.
Now I went back to this form, and for some reason when I click in the form and on the right go edit fields and look at this column it now says its (custom) beside it and I can't look where I chose rich text.
I then created a new form with the insert->Modern->form (because it always tries to make it choose modern) thinking it would be a better form, and now for this column I can choose it as Edit Multi line text but I do not see rich text option anymore.
So I then create a new screen with a new standard form and I can now see I can choose rich text.
How frustrating is this!
They offer new forms but do not give you the rich text option which for me is important. They old forms somehow turn the column into custom and I loose all the options for it.
Am I doing something wrong?
Hi @gstlouis ,
Rich Text in Modern SharePoint Lists: SharePoint lists now support rich text directly in the list experience without needing to open the classic experience. However, sometimes features might not behave as expected due to updates or configuration changes.
Custom Column Issue: If your column is showing as "(custom)" in the form, it's possible that something has been altered in the list settings, or there might be a glitch. To troubleshoot, you can try to go back to the SharePoint list settings and ensure the column is still set to "Enhanced rich text."
Modern vs. Classic Forms: The classic SharePoint forms tend to support a broader range of field types than modern forms. Modern forms are designed to be more mobile-friendly and streamlined, but sometimes at the cost of full feature parity with classic forms.
Power Apps Forms: When you customize your list form with Power Apps, you may notice some limitations. Power Apps has its own Rich Text Editor control, which can be used to provide rich text capabilities. However, integrating this with SharePoint list data requires proper data formatting.
Inconsistency Across Forms: As you've experienced, sometimes a feature like rich text might be available in one form but not another. This could be due to the different templates that Power Apps provides for forms or because of updates that change feature availability.
To address your specific issues, consider the following steps:
Recheck the List Settings: Go back to the list settings in SharePoint to ensure that the column is still configured correctly.
Power Apps Customization: If you're customizing with Power Apps, consider adding the Rich Text Editor control manually to the form if it's not available by default.
Use the Classic Form: If the modern form is not meeting your needs, you might need to revert to using the classic form for the time being.
Feedback to Microsoft: Since the modern experience is still evolving, providing feedback to Microsoft through the SharePoint UserVoice or Power Apps Community forums can help improve the product.
If this works for you, please mark it as the "Accepted Solution."
