I have a many-to-many relationship between two custom entities with a subgrid on each entity showing related records from the other entity. if I use create from the subgrid on entity A how can I associate the record being created in entity B?

a many-to-many of course does not include a lookup field and my google fu is failing me

Hi, is this a Manual N:N or a Native N:N relationship?

Also, is this on the Portal or on a Model-Driven App?

    This is a portal app.

I don't understand manual vs native. but because creating a lookup field can't create a N:N in the entity I created a N:N relationship between entity A and entity B

    hope that helps

    • Native N:N is where you choose to create the N:N relationship type (off the menu).  Behind the scenes this creates an intersect Table that has fields to hold the Guids from each side of the N:N.  Native you never see the Intersect entity in a Model Driven app but can query it etc in custom FetchXML (e.g. via XrmToolBox)
    • Manual N:N is where you create the Intersect Table yourself, and put a Lookup (1:N) for one side N table, and a Lookup to the other side N table.  Manual you see the Intersect entity in a Model Driven App and can query it directly using Advanced Find etc.

Structurally both are similar,  Table1 -< Intersect table >- Table2   but visibility and how they perform and security model is different.

thanks for the explanation! I'm defiantly using native N:N then. so is there anything special I need to do now to associate a new record when it gets created from the subgrid?
