Set default value on form accoding to date column

Hi, everyone. I have a form in my page. One of the fields is a date field. I would like that the user first selects a date. If there is a row with that date, the form updates that row. If not, the form creates a new row. Is there an easy way to do this? I've been looking everywhere and found nothing.

Thanks.

There is not enough info to answer this properly (e.g. are all the existing 'date' items listed on the page already), but suspect that you may need to make user of the Portals Web API (second link contains Wrapper for making calls)
