Lab 09 - Cannot Create Outlook Connection

Hi,

When creating the Outlook connection in the send email action in the agent flow for lab09 (add agent flow), I get an error after signing in to create the connection. The error essentially says that a connection cannot be created and to sign in to create a new connection. This just goes round in circles! For context, I am using a microsoft supplied xxxx@learnwithpowerup.onmicrosoft.com account and developer environment to complete this course as I do not have access to a work account required to set up my own developer account.

A quick copilot seems to indicate this may be down to the fact that the powerup.onmicrosoft.com accounts do not have Outlook provided. Nor can a personal account be used to create the connection.

Has anyone been able to find a way around this as it is a blocker to completing the module.

thanks,
Dave

You’re on the right track, and you haven’t done anything wrong! This is a known limitation with the Power Up Program environments

Your understanding is spot on, the @learnwithpowerup.onmicrosoft.com accounts typically don’t have an Exchange Online mailbox provisioned.

Because there’s no mailbox behind the account, the Office 365 Outlook connector gets stuck in a sign-in loop, trying to create a connection that can’t be completed.

Since the labs are tied to your Power Up environment, switching to a personal/work account usually isn’t a good option for grading. Instead, try one of these:

Option 1: Use the Mail connector (best alternative)
Use Send an email notification (V3) from the Mail connector.
    Doesn’t require a mailbox
Works well for testing your flow

    Option 2: Use Teams instead
    Replace the email step with:
Post message as the Flow bot to a user
or Post card in a chat/channel

Option 3: Document and move on
If the lab strictly requires Outlook, you may need to skip executing this step.
This is a known limitation, and usually the implementation matters more than the final run.

    Summary
    Your setup is correct
The environment simply doesn’t support Outlook connections
Use Mail or Teams to continue the lab

You’re definitely not alone , this is one of the most common blockers in this module.

First, test whether the lab account can access Outlook Web App. If it cannot, then the Outlook connection cannot be created and there is likely nothing wrong with your configuration.
In that case, check the Microsoft Learn lab Q&A/discussion area for Lab 09. If others are reporting the same issue, it's probably a known limitation of the current sandbox environment, and you may need either an updated lab environment or an alternative exercise path.
