PowerApps Portal: Default Home Page

Hello Community,

For the PowerApps custom portal, is the default Home page always required? Is it a must that we always need a "Home" page on the portal, or can we get away without it? I don't mean hiding the Home page, but to not have it altogether.

And is it also possible to have the portal login user land on a different page other than the Home page on the portal? And if yes, where would I go in Portal Management to change this?

Any pointers are appreciated.

Thank you!

    Hi @Anonymous ,

All Portals (and websites in general) have a root web page. Home is a root web page for Power Apps Portals. What do you want to have instead of it? Using liquid and security roles might help you to make the home page unique for every user if necessary.

Regarding redirect to a specific web page - you will need to use some code to achieve this. Check out this article for more details.

    Hi @OOlashyn ,

Thanks for your inputs. I tried using the "Redirect" feature to hopefully redirect the portal to a specific web page, other than the Home page, when accessing the portal URL. It doesn't seem to work, but I would think this is one way of using the Redirect feature, no? Please see my attached screen shot on how I have set up this Redirect. I have set up the inbound URL to the custom portal URL.

The idea here is that upon accessing the custom portal URL, I want the portal to redirect the landing page to "Contoso Page", instead of landing on the default Home page.

Is this not possible via the Redirect feature, and we must use custom codes?

    Thanks!

    Hello @Anonymous ,

i usually use the method @OOlashyn describes. I usually have a setting (which is bad, should be a sitemarker, will change my habit in the next project 🙂 ) which contains the url where to move to ( https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/powerapps/maker/portals/liquid/liquid-objects#sitemarkers ). If you have that kind of code in your home or whereever template, it works alwys even  when the sitemarker is not present (then it does nothing...). Bonuspoints if you have a webtemplate for redirecting, which is includable 🙂 ( https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/powerapps/maker/portals/liquid/template-tags#include ).

The redirect never worked for me too (and also the shortcuts are not that handy). And if the redirect worked, it would have redirected every user... If there is a working version of redirects i would highly appreciate it.

But when you what every user (via root redirect) to visit a specific page why not place the content in the rootpage and require a login to the root?

Sorry, not the solution, but may be it helps.

    Have fun,

       Christian

    Hi @Anonymous ,

Redirects are more for replacing pages that are not used or been modified. Also as Inbound URL, you need to provide partial URL of the page, not the full one, so I am not sure that you can apply it to the Home Page. Also as @chleverenz mentioned redirect will redirect all users to the new page and in case of the home page I would say it is just easier to replace your home page with the one that you want your users to be redirected to.
