SharePoint Grid Upload Issue in Power Pages

Community Question: SharePoint Grid Upload Issue in Power Pages

Hi everyone,

I'm currently facing an issue with a Power Pages portal where we've embedded a SharePoint document grid. The purpose is to allow users to upload documents directly through the 'Add files' button.

However, the issue is that the 'Add files' button appears to be non-functional—clicking it doesn’t trigger any upload dialog or action. As a result, users are completely unable to upload documents through the portal interface.

Has anyone encountered this behavior before? If so:

  • - What were the root causes?

  • - Are there specific scripts, permissions, or configuration steps we need to ensure are correctly set?

  • - Are there known limitations or compatibility issues with SharePoint grids in Power Pages?

Any guidance or troubleshooting steps would be appreciated!

Thanks in advance.

You're not alone—this issue with the 'Add files' button not working in a SharePoint document grid embedded in Power Pages has been reported by others, and there are a few known causes and workarounds. Here's a breakdown based on Microsoft's documentation and community insights:

    🔍 Known Causes and Issues

    1. Iframe Limitations:

      • If the SharePoint document grid is embedded via an iframe (which is common in Power Pages), interactive elements like the 'Add files' button may not function properly. This is a known limitation in the Unified Interface  .
    2. Missing or Incorrect Document Location Records:

      • If the document location records in Dataverse (model-driven app) are not correctly configured to point to the SharePoint library or folder, the grid may load but not function correctly  .
    3. Permissions Issues:

      • The user accessing the portal must have appropriate SharePoint permissions (e.g., Contribute or Edit) on the target document library.
      • Also, ensure that the portal application identity has access to the SharePoint site if you're using server-to-server authentication.
    4. Third-Party Customizations:

      • If any third-party solutions or scripts have modified the SharePoint folder structure (e.g., renamed or moved folders), this can break the integration  .

     Recommended Troubleshooting Steps

    1. Verify Document Locations:

      • In your model-driven app, go to Advanced Settings > Document Management > Document Locations.
      • Ensure that the correct SharePoint site and folder paths are configured for the entity you're working with.
    2. Run the Document Management Settings Wizard:

      • Navigate to Settings > Document Management and re-run the wizard to ensure all libraries and folders are correctly linked.
    3. Test Outside Power Pages:

      • Try accessing the same document grid from within the model-driven app directly. If it works there but not in Power Pages, it's likely an iframe or portal script issue.
    4. Use “Open Location” as a Fallback:

      • Microsoft suggests using the “Open Location” link to open the SharePoint site directly if the grid controls are unresponsive  .

    ⚠️ Limitations

    • The SharePoint document grid in Power Pages is not officially supported for full interactivity in all scenarios, especially when embedded in iframes.
    • Microsoft recommends using custom file upload controls or Power Automate flows for more reliable document handling in Power Pages.

When you say you enable the SP subgrid, did you enable the OOB SP integration or did you expose directly the Document Location subgrid?

Did you configure table permissions correctly?

There are a few links that I always follow when setting this up that could help:
