I used the filter function to search through the columns in my sharepoint list. When I preview the app in power apps development environment, the matching column is displayed as expected. However, when I play the app outside the development environment no matching results is displayed. Any idea of what is going on. For example: column name is Definition and it contains the string: Keyboard is an input device. When I preview the app in the editing process, typing "keyboard" produces a matching results. However when I play the app outside editing mode, no matching results is produced.

Just to rule things out: did you publish the app and made sure you were using the last version of the app (refresh the browser 3 or more times) in play mode?
I have not published the app but I play the modified version of the app under your apps in the power apps window
I just read your opening post again and you mentioned "outside of the development environment", suggesting you are using multiple environments. Did you move the latest version of your app/solution to the environment where you wish to use them?
If you did and the new changes are not visible, did you check if your app has any unmanaged layers in the target environment?
I did not move it, I was just playing the modified version but the modification did not reflect in current version
Well, for any changes to reflect outside of your development environment, you first have to export you app.
You can do this using packages (https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/power-apps/maker/canvas-apps/export-import-app), but ideally you'd use solutions: https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/power-apps/maker/data-platform/solutions-overview
