From Access to Power Query to ?

Hi,

I started working with Office long time ago using Excel and Access (for bigger data) and my work changed so I lost a bit the development in terms of working in office with (big) data. Since some months I discovered Power Query in Excell which has some very good advantages to me:

Easy to do filters/queries
a lot faster like Access back in time
possibility to connect to folders (I have all my csv/xlsx Files in one folder so, it's very useful to me that data gets automatically published when adding a new file)

I see one big disadvantage which is perhaps no disadvantage because I do not know how to handle it. Power Query is sticked to my Excel File. So I find it a bit complicated to grab data when I want to have for example a report build from scratch with a new file using my Power Query data. What I really would aim for is to have a database in the Power Platform which I can easily access with every app (Excel, Power Bi, Power Point) which has quite the same funcionality like Power Query.

Any recommendations are very welcome.

Thanks.

Power Query is a data manipulation tool. It is not part of a data storage solution. If you want a database, use a database - like SQL Server, or any of the other databases on offer.  You can then use Power Query to connect to that database and transform the data as needed.

Dataverse acts as a cloud-based database where you can store and manage data, accessible by Excel, Power BI, Power Apps, and other tools. This eliminates the need to rely on a single Excel file for Power Query
Dataverse offers data transformation capabilities similar to Power Query. You can apply filters, transformations, and calculations directly in Dataverse or while importing data.
    • Power BI: Directly connect Power BI to Dataverse tables, allowing you to create live reports and dashboards.
    • Excel: Use Data > Get Data > From Power Platform > From Dataverse in Excel to connect to and pull data.
    • Power Apps and Power Automate: These tools can also connect to Dataverse, letting you automate data workflows and app interactions.
