Power Portal Future

I am interested in knowing the future of Power Portal from a product perspective. Now that we see that lot of enhancements are available in Power Pages and almost all the backend tools point to power pages. We also can't create new Power Portals.

The situation we have is that we are already having a Power Portal website which is live and having a user base of around 20,000 users. The client wants to enhance lot of things under the hood, and everyone feels that migrating to a power page is the logical and only available solution.

The client is not fully convinced as they can't find anything official from Microsoft that existing power portals will be deprecated.

Is there any official resource which points to the direction, end of life or anything which says that having a website in power portal will then miss out these so many enhancements or it will not be supported etc.

    Hi @Himanshu_Sharma ,

Microsoft has been prioritizing the enhancement and expansion of Power Pages, positioning it as the future platform over the older Power Portals. Although there hasn't been an explicit announcement of Power Portals' deprecation, the focus is evidently on advancing Power Pages, which boasts several new features and integrations absent in Power Portals.

Some of these exclusive Power Pages features include:

    • Advanced Design Studio for more intuitive and powerful website design.
    • Power Pages Copilot.
    • Integration with Microsoft Dataverse for secure and scalable data management.
    • Enhanced security features, such as advanced encryption and role-based access controls.
    • Visual Studio Code integration, allowing professional developers to extend website capabilities using JavaScript, Liquid templates, and custom business logic.
    • Templates Hub and Learn Hub, offering quick starts and learning resources to help users design, configure, and publish websites more effectively.

From a product development standpoint, existing Power Portals will continue to receive support. However, future enhancements and new features will be primarily directed towards Power Pages. This suggests that while current Power Portal sites will remain functional, they may not benefit from the latest updates and capabilities that Power Pages will offer.

    Thanks!

    Hi @Himanshu_Sharma ,

Microsoft hasn't killed the Power Portal (Standard Data Model) yet. You can turn off your Enhanced Data Model (Power Pages) and create a Power Portal instead.

Many websites are built using the standard data model. Microsoft hasn't announced plans to stop supporting Power Portal. Even if they eventually do, you can trust them to provide tools or handle the migration to Power Pages themselves.

Technically, Power Pages is essentially the same as Power Portal, with the main difference being the deployment method and the ability to include Power Pages in a solution.

My final advice: Don't worry. Thousands of clients use Power Portal, and Microsoft, a leading company, is committed to keeping its customers safe and satisfied.
