Word wrap when viewing data on basic form

Hi there

When the amount of text is greater than the control size, the text is truncated.  Is there any way of expanding the height of the control (either permanently or in response to the amount of text) and allowing the text to wrap onto the line below.

In the example below which contains sample (test) data, I either click on the hyperlink or select View details:

This opens the basic form to view the data:

The red arrow indicates where the text is truncated.

Any thoughts?

Unless I'm missing something, the new community site lists posts by 'most recent replied post' and not 'date' by default.  This means that by default, users don't see new posts (which have no replies), which is quite sub-optimal.

As a result, best to change your sort to date if you want to see new posts.

You can now update the Single Line field definition in Dataverse and set its  Format to Text Area, then on your form you can specify a number of rows (similar to what you do for Multi Line text).  Where the field in question is already on your Dataverse form (and then you change its format) you will need to remove it and re-add it to the form (or add it and remove the old one) to get the ability to set the multi line.

It can also probably be done with CSS/Javascript by overriding the height, word-wrap and overflow.

@Fubar I should have mentioned in my post that the Event column is a lookup column.  A possible workaround is to create a text column (with format text area) which is automatically updated by a real-time workflow on record creation or update of the Event column.  I can't think of a better or easier way, can you?

Not sure whether @... is working on the new community site, but worth a try...

I haven't tried this so possibly may not work (just not sure about if the text area will render ok) but if the field or form is readonly one possibility without copying etc may be to use a Quick View form linked to the Lookup field on the form
    e.g.
    • apply Text area format to the Name field in the table being looked up,
    • create a Quick View form and on that form set the number of rows of the Name field
    • Add the QV form to the your main form (linked to the Lookup field)
    • Hide the Lookup field portal side (Metadata CSS or JavaScipt/JQuery)

    Thanks @Fubar

The Quick View form solution you suggested works (see screenshot)

    Much appreciated.
