Attempting to edit Home page in Visual Studio Code shows Blank code even though the web page has content

Attempting to edit Home page in Visual Studio Code for one of my Power Page projects, shows Blank (no code) on the html file when using Visual Studio Code Previewer. Yet the front facing home page in a browser, has form content all over it.  What is going on? How do I edit the home page content?

Sorta Figured it out.  I can see from Power Apps | Portal Management, that the Page Template for Home, is referencing a Web Template called "MSVE_Home".  I can edit that Web Template in Portal Management, but the content for that template does not appear in the preview for Visual Studio Code in the browser.

    I wish it did.

@kensley  I hope you are doing fantastic. The issue you’re encountering while editing the home page in Visual Studio Code for your Power Page project seems to be related to the Visual Studio Code Previewer. Although the front-facing home page in a browser displays form content, the HTML file appears blank when viewed in the Previewer.

Here are some steps to troubleshoot and resolve this issue:

    1. Refresh the Previewer:

      • Sometimes, the Previewer may not update automatically. Try refreshing it by clicking the refresh button or using the keyboard shortcut (usually F5).
    2. Check for Errors in the HTML File:

      • Open the HTML file in Visual Studio Code (not the Previewer).
      • Look for any syntax errors, missing tags, or issues that might prevent the content from rendering.
      • Correct any errors you find.
    3. Inspect the Console:

      • Open the browser’s developer console while viewing the front-facing home page.
      • Check for any error messages related to JavaScript or CSS.
      • Address any issues reported in the console.
    4. Clear Cache and Cookies:

      • Sometimes, cached data can cause discrepancies between the Previewer and the actual browser.
      • Clear your browser’s cache and cookies, then try again.
    5. Preview in an Actual Browser:

      • To ensure accuracy, preview your home page directly in a browser (not just the Previewer).
      • Compare the content displayed in the browser with what you see in the Previewer.
    6. Extensions and Settings:

      • Ensure that your Visual Studio Code extensions and settings are up to date.
      • Disable any conflicting extensions that might affect the Previewer.
    7. Power Pages Documentation:

Remember that the Previewer is a lightweight tool, and discrepancies may occur. If the issue persists, consider relying more on direct browser testing to ensure accurate results.

@kensley I hope you are doing fantastic. The provided text indicates that there is a web template named “MSVE_Home” being referenced within the context of a home page. While the user can edit this web template in Portal Management, they are encountering an issue: the content associated with this template does not appear in the Visual Studio Code preview within the browser.

To address this, the user should consider the following steps:

    1. Review Template Configuration:

      • Double-check the configuration of the “MSVE_Home” web template in Portal Management.
      • Ensure that all necessary content and components are correctly associated with this template.
    2. Inspect Visual Studio Code:

      • Open the “MSVE_Home” template in Visual Studio Code.
      • Verify that the content is correctly defined within the template file (e.g., HTML, CSS, JavaScript).
    3. Preview in an Actual Browser:

      • While the Visual Studio Code previewer is helpful, it may not always accurately reflect the final rendering in a browser.
      • Preview the home page directly in an actual browser to see if the content displays as expected.
    4. Check for Errors or Warnings:

      • Inspect the browser’s developer console for any error messages or warnings related to the “MSVE_Home” template.
      • Address any issues reported in the console.

Remember that discrepancies between the Visual Studio Code preview and actual browser rendering can occur. Testing directly in a browser provides a more accurate representation of the final result.

@kensley Let’s break this down and I'll explain it step by step:

    1. Context:

      • The user is working with Power Apps and Portal Management.
      • They are editing a Page Template for the home page.
      • This template references a Web Template named “MSVE_Home”.
    2. Issue:

      • When the user edits the “MSVE_Home” Web Template in Portal Management, the content associated with this template does not appear in the Visual Studio Code preview within the browser.
    3. Explanation:

      • The issue seems to be related to the rendering of the “MSVE_Home” Web Template content in the Visual Studio Code (VS Code) preview.
      • While the user can edit the template in Portal Management, the actual content doesn’t display as expected in the browser when previewed using VS Code.
    4. Possible Causes and Solutions:

      • There could be several reasons for this discrepancy:
        • Template Configuration: Double-check the configuration of the “MSVE_Home” Web Template in Portal Management. Ensure that all necessary content is correctly associated.
        • HTML Content: Inspect the actual HTML content within the template file. Look for any syntax errors or issues that might prevent rendering.
        • Browser Preview: Sometimes, the VS Code previewer may not accurately reflect the final rendering in a browser. Consider directly previewing the home page in an actual browser to verify the content.
    5. Next Steps:

      • Validate the template configuration, inspect the HTML, and test the home page in a browser to ensure accurate results.

Remember that troubleshooting discrepancies between VS Code previews and actual browser rendering often involves checking configurations, debugging, and direct testing.
