Microsoft Form - Need Result dataset available for Power BI; start & end times required

Good morning,

Currently I have a need to gather information from Microsoft Forms responses for use in analytics with Power BI etc.

The first most important note: I must be able to see the datetime the Form response was started as well as the datetime of the Form completion.

Using the new SharePoint List/Forms functionality works nicely to avoid Power Automate/Flows while making the results available in a SharePoint List, however the START time of the form, from my research is not available when using this method (completion time is there, but to my knowledge start time is only available when the Form results are stored in an Excel on OneDrive.

Looking into the Excel/OneDrive solution, while not ideal - does give me all the necessary fields I require. However, it seems that the Excel file only syncs the new form responses when the workbook is opened, which doesn't work. I setup a Power Automate Flow to periodically take the Excel records and put them to a SharePoint List, but this flow again does not see the new records from Excel unless the Excel workbook is opened to trigger the sync.

I'm trying to avoid writing a Power App to handle this, mostly due to IT constraints and the type of hardware that will be used to complete the form/questions.

Are the any other viable options that will allow me to have these critical fields, while also allowing for automated/hand-off data refreshes using flows or some other method?

Thanks

@Michael E. Gernaey unfortunately if I use Power Automate to push results from a submitted form to SharePoint list directly, the start time of the form is not an available field that can be used. I've tried a bunch of testing to make this work, and research suggests it is not a generated value using this method.

Somehow, for some reason it seems the start time is only generated/stored/available when pushed to Excel OneDrive.

If you can find/prove differently I'd love to know because I cannot get this to work so far.

    Thanks

So the data that goes into the Excel would be available in a Power Automate, when a form is submitted, so you would have to use the PA to get what you need, without having to worry about reading the file.

Personally reading the file is a PITA and I never do it. I see people doing it and having nothing but issues every single time with this, especially when you have multiple people submitting at the same time

    No thanks..

Thats my 2cents. use PA, you don't need a Power App, but you really do need a Power Automate Flow. Then feel free to write it to another Excel, or Flat file, or to a SharePoint List.

    Its cost would be negligible
