Power BI Service reports stopped auto refreshing after switching to a new machine

Hello. I wanted to check if anyone else have seen an issue with Power BI Service - auto refresh stopped working after switching to a new machine. I have changed my machine and have Power BI dashboard/reports that used to auto refresh when my I'm not signed in, idle, or even when it is shut off. Now with the new machine, I no longer have the ability to use the schedule refresh and errors out/turns off the refresh after several attempts. I tried creating a new gateway and it's still not auto refreshing the dashboard. Checking to see if anyone has seen this behavior and if there's a resolution. I would greatly appreciate if anyone can provide some guidance or information.
I have the same question (0)

I would explain the issue as:

The change of machine itself should not prevent Power BI Service scheduled refresh. However, if the old setup depended on a gateway, the new

machine/gateway must have the correct data sources, credentials, drivers, and gateway association configured. The first step should be to check Refresh History

and identify the exact failure rather than creating additional gateways.

Once the underlying error is corrected, turn Scheduled refresh back on and run a manual refresh to confirm that it succeeds. Power BI will not automatically

recover the schedule simply because the gateway is recreated.

    Hello @11manish

Thank you for responding to my inquiry. Greatly appreciate your time. The manual refresh works without any issues - or at least for the most part. It's just when the machine is shut down or the user isn't signed in. This was not a problem with the old machine, which makes me think if it just needs a new gateway connection. Below is the error for additional information. Hoping this helps and I can find a solution. Thank you again for your time and support.

Yes — the error is very helpful. It confirms that the problem is the gateway's SQL credentials, not the Power BI report or scheduled-refresh feature itself.
    The key part is:

    DM_GWPipeline_Gateway_InvalidConnectionCredentials

    and:

"The credentials provided for the SQL source are invalid."

    The affected source is:

    MPD-RCQRY-01;CAD-SYSTEMDB

The error indicates that the Power BI Service is reaching the gateway successfully, but the credentials configured for the SQL data source MPD-RCQRY-01;CAD-SYSTEMDB are invalid or no longer have access. This explains why the report can refresh manually in Power BI Desktop but fails when the machine is shut down or the user is signed out. I recommend checking the gateway's SQL data-source configuration and updating/testing the credentials rather than creating another gateway initially. After the gateway connection succeeds, remap the semantic model to that data source and run a refresh from Power BI Service.

    Hi @JB-08092220-0,

Can you please confirm your new machine is properly registered and authorized in Azure AD if your organization uses it?

Also - refresh or re-enter your authentication details in you new machine if not done yet. In Power BI Service, go to Settings > Datasets > Data Source Credentials and re-enter or update your authentication details.

Just for a cross check, If you were using a personal gateway on the old machine, consider switching to an enterprise/shared gateway to avoid machine dependency.

Please let me know if this thread helps.
