Power Automate Fundamentals # 40: Usage of Join Function in Power Automate

 

Introduction:

In Power Automate, at times we must join few items which received in the form of strings. As a scenario, response of the user was taken to show this function behavior.

 

Step 1:

Login to the required Power Apps environment using URL make.powerapps.com by providing username and password and click on Flows on the left-hand side as shown in the below figure.

Step 2:

After Step 1, Click on New Flow and select instant cloud flow and provide the trigger as Manually trigger a flow and click on Create as shown in the below figure.

Step 3:

After Step 2, name the flow as Join  Function and take initialize variable and name it as Registered Users for an Event  and provide values

 

Name: Registered Users for an Event

Type: Array

Values: [

"Venkat",

"Subba Rao",

"Venkata Subba Rao Polisetty"

]

 

 

as shown in the below figure.

Step 4:

After Step 3, take compose action and name it as Join Function - Comma Separator and provide the input values with the following syntax of join function which expects a collection and 2nd parameter as delimiter string

 

join(collection: array, delimiter: string)

as

join(variables('RegisteredUsers'),',')

 

and click on ok / Update as shown in the below figure.

Step 5:

After Step 4, take compose action and name it as Join Function | Pipe Separator and provide the input values  as

 

Inputs : join(variables('RegisteredUsers'),'|')

 

as shown in the below figure.

Step 6:

After Step 5, save and test the flow and observe the results that the given output have set of values separated by delimiters comma, pipe as shown in the below figure.

Note:

  1. Make sure to save and run the flow whenever you try expressions.
  2. Make sure to provide input array in proper acceptable format of string array.

 

Conclusion: In this way we can join  received values with join function in power automate.
