What’s happening?
The system does not allow users to create fixed asset names longer than 60 characters, despite an update in version 10.0.29 that was supposed to increase the limit to 150 characters.
Reason:
The change to allow longer fixed asset names was reverted to prevent potential issues with the Trial Balance report if fixed assets are used as a dimension attribute. As a result, customers are currently restricted to a maximum of 60 characters for fixed asset names.
Resolution:
To resolve the fixed asset name character limit issue in Dynamics 365 Finance, ensure that the fixed asset name is under 60 characters. This limit is in place to prevent performance issues and errors in reports such as the Trial Balance.
If you encounter an error due to long asset names, you can use the Optimization advisor rule (System administration> Periodic task> Data maintenance) named "Check fixed assets with too long names" to identify and modify asset names that exceed the limit.
