What’s happening?

Customers are encountering issues with cross-tenant license recognition and accessing resources such as model-driven apps and SharePoint sites across different tenants within the Power Platform.

Reason:

  1. For cross-tenant license recognition, it has been confirmed that external users are synced as Members instead of Guests, which affects the licensing logic. The "not working" behavior is expected under these conditions, as the Bring Your Own License (BYOL) logic only applies to Guests.
  2. In the case of accessing SharePoint sites and other applications from a different tenant, the issue arises when users attempt to connect to resources in the global tenant while operating from the UK tenant.

Resolution:

  1. For cross-tenant license recognition issues:
  2. Ensure that external users are assigned the appropriate roles. During testing, it was found that assigning elevated roles (e.g., System Admin) bypassed license checks for model-driven apps, which may indicate a need for role adjustments.
  3. Monitor updates from the product team regarding the expected timeline for resolution of the known issues related to cross-tenant licensing.
  4. For accessing SharePoint and other applications across tenants:
  5. Verify that the user is correctly switching directories to the intended tenant before attempting to access resources.
  6. Confirm that the necessary permissions and roles are assigned to the user in both the global and UK tenants to facilitate access to the required resources.
  7. If issues persist, escalate the matter internally for further investigation, as it may be out of scope for the current support team handling canvas apps.
  8. If the issue is not resolved through the above steps, further internal updates and collaboration with technical specialists may be required to address the functionality in the customer's environment.
  9. For any licensing errors encountered, ensure that users have the appropriate licenses for accessing premium connectors and applications.
