What’s happening?
Customers are experiencing difficulties connecting to SharePoint for document management purposes. This includes being unable to add SharePoint storage for document types and encountering errors when attempting to authenticate with SharePoint.

Reason:

  • This may arise from incorrect configuration settings in the SharePoint integration, particularly related to user authentication and permissions.
  • The "Upgrade SharePoint user authentication" feature may be disabled, leading to connection failures.
  • There may be a mismatch between application GUIDs referenced in error messages, indicating potential setup issues.

Resolution:

  • Ensure that the SharePoint site is correctly set up and associated with the tenant.
  • Verify that the user account being used has site collection administrator privileges.
  • In Dynamics 365 Finance, navigate to Organization administration > Document management > Document management parameters. On the SharePoint tab, enter the correct SharePoint server URL and test the interactive SharePoint connection.
  • If the connection fails with the error message @ApplicationPlatform.SPServerUserNotAuthorized, check the application IDs to ensure they are not reused or using a Microsoft one. If necessary, register a new app ID in the Azure portal.
  • Confirm that the application is configured for preauthorization in the Azure portal. This includes:
  • Signing in to the Microsoft Entra admin center with an account that has at least the Cloud Application Administrator role.
  • Navigating to Enterprise applications and selecting the application for which you want to configure preauthorization.
  • Adding the required API permissions and granting admin consent to preauthorize these permissions for all users in the tenant.
  • If issues persist, engage with Microsoft Support for further assistance and provide detailed information about the problem, including any error messages encountered.
