What’s happening?
Customers want to use the same customer account number for companies (legal entities) in their Finance and Operations (FO) system, while managing different reward point bags for each legal entity.

Reason:
The underlying cause is the need for a unified customer identity across multiple legal entities, which typically have separate customer lists and loyalty programs.

Resolution:

  1. Using the Same Customer Account Number Across Companies:
  2. It is possible to use the same customer account number across legal entities by utilizing shared number sequences. This allows for the copying of customers from one legal entity to another while maintaining the same customer ID in both entities.
  3. To implement this:
    • Configure shared number sequences for customer IDs across all legal entities. This can be done on the Accounts receivable parameters page by selecting the Number sequences tab and setting up the shared number sequence for customer IDs.
    • Use the Copy customer option in the Create customer dialog box to copy a customer from one legal entity to another. Ensure the Copy customer option is set to Yes and select the legal entity to copy the customer from.
    • For more details, refer to the document: "Copy customers by using shared number sequences - Finance | Dynamics 365 | Microsoft Learn".
  4. Setting Up Different Reward Point Bags:
  5. When a customer has the same account number across legal entities, different reward point bags can be set up for each legal entity. This can be achieved by linking loyalty cards to specific loyalty programs and assigning them to different legal entities.
  6. To set up loyalty cards and reward points:
    • Define loyalty programs that represent the different reward incentives offered. Include loyalty program tiers and define earning and redemption rules.
    • Issue loyalty cards from any channel that participates in the loyalty programs. Link loyalty cards to one or more loyalty programs that the customer can participate in.
    • Assign loyalty cards to specific legal entities by selecting the appropriate loyalty programs.
  7. Setting Up a Shared Reward Point Bag Across Companies:
  8. A shared reward point bag can be established across companies by using shared loyalty programs and loyalty cards. This allows customers to accumulate and redeem loyalty points across different legal entities.
  9. Steps to achieve this:
    • Define loyalty programs that represent the different reward incentives offered, which can be shared across legal entities.
    • Issue loyalty cards from any channel that participates in the loyalty programs. Link loyalty cards to one or more loyalty programs that the customer can participate in.
    • Use the Commerce Shared Parameters form to configure settings that apply to all legal entities using Retail, including settings for loyalty points, such as posting earned points in batches and validating customers to redeem loyalty points.
