What’s happening?
Customers are unable to assign web roles to newly created contacts in the Power Platform Admin or Portal Management. The functionality to associate web roles is not visible or accessible for these new contacts, despite having sufficient permissions.

Reason:
This arises from the differences in data models (Enhanced Data Model vs. Standard Data Model) and the design of the role assignment process. In Enhanced Data Model portals, the association of web roles must be done through the related section on the contact record, which may not be immediately apparent to users.

Resolution:
For Enhanced Data Model Portals:

  1. Ensure that the web roles are associated through the related section on the contact record. This can be done by navigating to the General tab and locating the sub-grid for Web Roles.
  2. Refer to the Microsoft documentation for creating and assigning web roles: Create and assign web roles.
For Delays in Role Assignment:
  1. If there is a delay in role assignment when using Power Automate, it is noted that this is a design behavior, and the role assignment may take between 0 to 15 minutes to reflect on the portal.
  2. For further information, consult the Microsoft documentation on how server-side caching works in Power Platform: How server-side caching works in Power Platform.
