What’s happening?
Customers are unable to create multiple sandbox environments for different development stages (e.g., local, dev, staging) under a single license, leading to storage management issues.
Reason:
The design of Dynamics 365 dictates that newly created sandbox environments consume a certain amount of storage space by default due to pre-installed components and data necessary for functionality. This initial consumption can impact the available storage for production environments.
Resolution:
- Check License and Roles: Ensure that you have a license that allows the creation of environments and that you possess the necessary security roles (System Administrator or Global Administrator).
- Storage Management: If you encounter storage limitations, consider purchasing additional storage capacity for your tenant. This can be done by either:
- Having a base plan that includes database, file, and log capacity.
- Purchasing additional storage specifically for the common data service database, file, and log capacity.
- Creating a Separate Tenant: To avoid impacting the production environment, it is recommended to create a separate tenant for the sandboxes. This allows for better control over storage allocation for each sandbox environment.
- Monitor Storage Usage: Newly created sandbox environments will consume storage. Monitor the storage usage and manage it by removing unnecessary components or data.
- Addressing Storage Consumption: If storage consumption is high, consider removing customizations or unused components that may be taking up space.
