What’s happening?
Customers are facing errors while attempting to connect their domain to an existing site, specifically when adding the domain to the site.
Reason:
This arises due to the requirement of an SSL certificate to connect the domain. Customers have migrated their domain from one provider to another, and the new provider does not offer SSL certificates. As a result, they need to add DNS records to facilitate the connection.
Resolution:
- Ensure that an SSL certificate is obtained. Customers can either:
- Purchase an SSL certificate from a third-party provider.
- Contact the domain registrar to obtain the SSL certificate.
- Follow the DNS method as suggested by the new domain provider. This involves:
- Using tools like NSLookup to retrieve the necessary A and CNAME records.
- Configuring these records in the DNS settings of the domain registrar.
- Refer to the Microsoft documentation for adding a custom domain:
- Add a custom domain name | Microsoft Learn
- If issues persist, customers should share the HAR file of the error encountered for further investigation. This can be done by:
- Opening Developer Tools in the browser.
- Navigating to the Network tab and selecting "Preserve Log."
- Reproducing the issue and saving the log as a HAR file.
- For any additional support, customers are encouraged to reach out to Microsoft support for assistance.
